ABOUT US

We are proudly known for being a station which prides itself by promoting the indigenous lingo spoken and understood by all within our area of jurisdiction.

Based at the birthplace of Malombo sounds and sprawled on the foothills of Mamelodi, Mams FM is truly a paragon of social cohesion, a conduit to broadcasting bliss and a voice of the voiceless.

The Beggining

Mams Fm was conceived in 1998 during the first official roll out of Community radio licensing. This developmental journey was not easy as it coincided with limitations of signals and Five year long legal battle between the station, the authority and another station operating within our Geographic area. This prolonged the awarding of the license to Mams FM by eleven years hence our broadcasting license was only awarded to us in 2010 after intensive and laborious debates between ourselves and ICASA.

Mams FM is a new and ground-breaking local radio station in Mamelodi Township, Pretoria, aiming to capture and keep listeners of Mamelodi and surrounding nearby areas glued to their radio sets.  In addition to Mamelodi the following areas are covered by the frequency of the radio station, namely: Nokeng tsa Taemane Municipality (Greater Culllinan), Kungwini Municipality (Bronkhorstspruit), Atteridgeville, Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Soshanguve, Tshwane Municipality and the entire Pretoria East, West and Northern Suburbs.  Broadcasting will happen 24/7 emphasising on local fresh content.  We are licensed for 60% talk and 40% music.  Languages to be used for broadcasting are English, Sepedi, Setswana, IsiNdebele, IsiZulu, Xitsonga and Mamelodi Lingo.

Mams FM went on air on 7 March 2011 amid strong reservations from the prophets of doom. We are a catalyst for change and our mark will be felt from Mamelodi East to Gezina, from Mamelodi west to Kungwini, from Atteridgeville to Cullinan..
